Patrick G. Lacey

Patrick Lacey, who died on Monday 10th March, was one of cricket's characters. He played for Hythe Cricket Club during the years 1960 to mid 1970's predominantly as a useful medium pace bowler. Running in on his fairly short legs off some seventeen paces was an amusing sight, but his late swing on many occasions proved to be the downfall of many batsmen.

After he left Hythe he returned to Tenterden Cricket Club, from where he had originally played his earlier cricket. Following the end of his playing days, he became the Club's 1st XI scorer, (up to and including the 2007 season). and a particularly flamboyant and efficient one at that.

After several years serving as a Kent League Representative, the League bestowed on him a long Club Service award. In 2004 Tenterden C.C. made him an Honorary Life Vice-President in recognition of the very many years of devoted time and effort he had so generously given to the Club.

Despite his characteristic eccentricities he will be deeply and fondly missed by all those at the Club, and outside, who knew him.

Pat Lacey first played for Tenterden Cricket Club in 1950. He was a member of the Committee for many years being Captain of the Second Eleven and Fixture Secretary. When he finished his playing days he became the Club Scorer a job he had held for over 25 years until his death. He was 80 last October and was also known in hockey circles.
